Bell Pulls are fun, and make great pieces for filling those narrow walls.  Consider hem-finishing all sides, using a facing fabric on both ends, while leaving carrier-pockets.  Maybe 1 1/2" or so.  Use narrow rod-iron rods with finials for hanging (in top pocket), and as added weight on the bottom.  Same color metal brackets work very well for attaching to wall.
