Of the three Cathedral 's I painted during my 1900's folk-art period, this is the first. Not until Cathedral III did this series move out of the rural community into the city. I also had this old piece of distress wood with rusty hinges that I wanted use for a frame. That did not work out, much of the wood was full of worm holes deep inside and would crumble when being mitered. So . . . instead it makes a great border! (The original remains in the artist's private collection.)
